Belize City Council and Ministry of Local Government discuss transition of Municipal court
By Zoila Palma: On August 13, 2026, the Belize City Council met with the Ministry of Local Government to discuss the impending transition of the Municipal Court to the authority of the Central Government.
The meeting focused on the transition process, including the roles and responsibilities of the respective stakeholders, human resources considerations, and the importance of ensuring continuity in service delivery to residents.
The Belize City Council says that it remains committed to working collaboratively with the Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Finance, Christian Workers Union, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate a smooth and orderly transition while keeping the interests of Belize City residents and Belize City Council employees at the forefront.
