Helicopter damaged in Badakhshan, Ministry of Defense Says

A helicopter belonging to Ministry of Defense was damaged while landing in Badakhshan province after one of its rotors struck a pole, the ministry said, contradicting an earlier report that the aircraft had crashed after coming under attack. Enayatullah Khwarazmi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said in a post on X late Thursday that the helicopter was damaged during landing after its rotor hit a pole. He said no one was injured. Earlier, reports indicated that a helicopter had crashed in Nusay district of Badakhshan after coming under attack from fighters under the command of Juma Khan Fateh, described by the source as a dissident commander. The source said three helicopters were landing at the district center when they came under attack. According to the source, one of the helicopters was carrying personnel while two others were carrying ammunition. The source said the helicopter carrying ammunition crashed and claimed that a child was killed after debris from the aircraft fell to the ground. The Ministry of Defense did not confirm the reported death. The two accounts could not be independently reconciled based on the information available. The ministry described the incident as an accident during landing, while the source said, attributed the reported crash to an attack. Fighting has been reported in Nusay between forces aligned with the authorities and fighters loyal to Fateh. The incident comes amid reported fighting in parts of Badakhshan. However, the circumstances surrounding the helicopter incident, including whether the aircraft was attacked or damaged in an accident, remain unclear.
