Egypt reiterates Saudi solidarity following Houthi missile and drone attacks on oil infrastructure

Egypt has renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia following Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu and Jizan, condemning all strikes against civilian infrastructure and Red Sea shipping. The statement from Cairo comes as Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched retaliatory strikes against the world’s largest oil company, targeting Aramco assets in the Red Sea cities of Yanbu and Jizan on Saturday, according to Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree. The Houthi assault followed Saudi-led coalition airstrikes late on Friday against the strategic port city of Hodeida. Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, said in a statement that coalition operations “focused solely on legitimate military targets that the terrorist Houthi militia uses to threaten commercial vessels in the Red Sea.” Anees al-Asbahi, a spokesman for the Houthi-run health ministry, reported that the coalition strikes hit Hodeida’s port and state-run telecommunications corporation, injuring two people. The exchange follows Houthi attacks targeting two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea earlier in the week. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump warned on Truth Social that Washington would hold Tehran accountable for further Houthi attacks, stating: “If they do this again, the U.S. will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a Surrogate and/or Proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis, themselves.” The heightened hostilities come as the Houthis declared a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia last week, threatening to cut off the kingdom’s oil exports through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait while the United States and Iran continue to compete for control of the Strait of Hormuz. In its official response, Egypt categorically rejected and condemned all attacks targeting civilian transport, infrastructure, or the freedom of navigation in international waterways.
