Egypt’s FM urges regional de-escalation in talks with Qatari, Iranian, and Omani counterparts
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Qatari, Iranian, and Omani counterparts to urge regional de-escalation, ensure freedom of maritime navigation, and push for the resumption of US-Iranian negotiations, the foreign ministry announced on Saturday. Abdelatty met with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha following their participation in the ASEAN ministerial meeting in Manila. The two ministers discussed regional developments, emphasising the need to reduce escalation, contain tensions, and achieve calm. They highlighted the importance of returning to negotiations, adhering to the entitlements of a memorandum of understanding, and resuming talks between the United States and Iran. The ministers agreed to continue consultations until de-escalation efforts succeed. Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, Abdelatty and Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of implementing US President Donald Trump’s plan, fulfilling all obligations of the first phase, and transitioning to the second phase. The Doha meeting also addressed daily consultations and continuous coordination between Egypt and Qatar. Both officials affirmed a mutual commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across all fields, particularly in economics, trade, and investment, in accordance with the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. In separate phone calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Abdelatty stressed the need for an immediate halt to all military and escalatory actions. He urged the prioritisation of political and diplomatic solutions to contain rising tensions, prevent the expansion of the conflict, and spare the region’s people from the repercussions of further escalation. During the calls, Abdelatty emphasised the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, describing it as a fundamental pillar for regional security and stability. He asserted the necessity of avoiding any actions that threaten maritime corridors to protect international trade, global supply chains, and the global economy. The post Egypt’s FM urges regional de-escalation in talks with Qatari, Iranian, and Omani counterparts first appeared on Dailynewsegypt.
