HDB to expand mortgage finance with innovative, sustainable solutions: Walid Matar
Walid Matar, Assistant Managing Director for Retail Banking, Branches and Mortgage Finance at Housing and Development Bank (HDB), said the bank’s more than 45 years of experience in the real estate sector have cemented its position as one of Egypt’s leading financial institutions supporting urban development.
He added that the bank’s strategic partnership with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) has further strengthened its expertise and enhanced its ability to offer financing solutions that keep pace with evolving market needs and the rapid development of Egypt’s real estate sector.
Matar said digital transformation is one of the bank’s key strategic priorities in developing its products and services. He noted that HDB continues to adopt technology-driven solutions aimed at simplifying procedures, enhancing the customer experience, and delivering more accessible and flexible banking services that meet customers’ expectations and changing market demands.
He added that, in the coming period, the bank will continue to develop innovative financing solutions while expanding partnerships with stakeholders across the real estate sector.

According to Matar, competition in the mortgage finance market will increasingly depend not only on the volume of financing provided, but also on the quality of financing solutions, the speed of service delivery, and banks’ ability to design products that meet customers’ needs while supporting sustainable urban development.
Housing and Development Bank recently participated in the Capital Forum 2026 conference, reaffirming its commitment to contributing to discussions on the future of urban development and strengthening the banking sector’s role in supporting Egypt’s sustainable development plans.
Matar said the role of banks in supporting the real estate sector is no longer limited to providing conventional financing, but now extends to contributing to sustainable urban development through integrated financing solutions that address market needs and support the state’s urban expansion strategy.
He added that Egypt’s urban development boom in recent years, including the establishment of new cities and integrated urban communities, has reinforced the banking sector’s role as a key partner in financing this growth.
“The success of banks is measured not only by the volume of financing they provide, but also by their ability to deliver value-added solutions that support customers, development projects and the national economy,” Matar said.
