International News: Nearly £20 million worth of cocaine seized from banana shipment in UK
By Zoila Palma: UK Border Force officers have seized approximately £19.2 million worth of cocaine that was concealed inside crates of bananas aboard a refrigerated cargo ship.
The 240-kilogram shipment was discovered after the MV Atlantic Klipper docked in Portsmouth, having travelled from South America via the Caribbean, BBC reports.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) said the Class A drug was seized on Wednesday and has launched an investigation into the shipment. The cocaine was subsequently moved to a secure location with support from the Joint Operations Unit, a specialist collaboration between Hampshire Police and Thames Valley Police.
The NCA said the seizure represents a major blow to the organized crime group responsible for transporting the drugs.
