Egypt, France probe promoting judicial cooperation

Minister of Justice Mahmoud al-Sherif discussed on Monday, July 6, 2026, with French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier future areas of cooperation and partnership, as well as plans aimed at enhancing and developing the judicial system. During the meeting, Sherif reaffirmed Egypt’s firm commitment to the rule of law, stressing that the ministry is continuing its comprehensive efforts to modernize the justice system under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, alongside supporting digital technologies and the technological transformation of litigation and institutional administration to facilitate the swift delivery of justice and safeguard rights and freedoms. The two sides explored opportunities for cooperation with Expertise France in the fields of the rule of law, governance, and digital transformation, in addition to strengthening joint coordination with the French High Council of Notaries to develop Egypt’s notarization and real estate registration system. The meeting reviewed the fruitful bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Both sides commended recent coordination efforts by the Ministry of Justice’s International and Cultural Cooperation Sector, which over the past few months resulted in the settlement of several mutual criminal judicial assistance requests and extradition cases in cooperation with the French Ministry of Justice and investigating judges at the Paris Court, reflecting the strength of joint judicial coordination in combating organized crime and terrorism. For his part, the French ambassador affirmed his country’s full commitment to supporting frameworks for technical cooperation and partnership programs across all legal and judicial fields of mutual interest, reflecting the depth of the strategic ties between Egypt and France.
