President to join NATO Summit in Ankara

President Alexander Stubb will attend the NATO Summit in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye on Tuesday and Wednesday, said the President Office in a press release. The main themes of the summit are monitoring the implementation of the defence investment commitment agreed at last years NATO Summit in The Hague, as well as other decisions taken at the summit, support for Ukraine, and strengthening the defence industrial base in response to the long-term threat posed by Russia. The summit will underscore the commitment of European Allies to assume greater responsibility for the security of the continent. Finlands objective is that the decisions taken at the summit will reinforce NATOs unity and ensure continued support for Ukraine. On Tuesday Stubbs programme includes the NATO Defence Industry Forum, where he will take part in a panel discussion on whole-of-society industrial preparedness. In the evening, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his spouse Emine Erdoğan will host a dinner for the participants of the summit. On Wednesday, Stubb will attend a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Heads of State and Government, bringing together all NATO Allies. The Presidents programme also comprises several bilateral meetings. First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb will participate in the spouse programme and the dinner. The summit delegation, led by the President will include Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen. Their programme features ministerial-level working dinners and bilateral meetings. This is Finlands fourth summit as a NATO member.
