Iraqi President Nizar Amedi heads to Tehran for Khamenei funeral
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has traveled to Tehran to participate in the burial rites of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Amedi will extend condolences on behalf of the Iraqi state and people after the death of Khamenei during the Iran conflict that started on February 28, the Iraqi presidency announced.
Amedi, who took office in April, is among numerous regional officials set to attend the funeral, highlighting the tight political, economic, and religious links between Iraq and Iran.
Khamenei, who has ruled Iran for over four decades, has played a crucial role in defining Tehran-Baghdad ties since the toppling of Saddam Hussein.
