Turkish Airlines increases Baghdad flights to three daily
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Turkish Airlines has boosted its Istanbul-Baghdad route to three flights daily, a substantial improvement in air connectivity between Iraq and Turkey and a sign of recovery in Iraq’s aviation industry after months of regional disruption.
The new frequency, effective from July 1, boosts the number of daily flights between Istanbul Airport and Baghdad International Airport, providing more capacity for business travelers, tourists, and transit passengers.
The expansion is considered a significant development for Iraq’s aviation industry, which was hit hard earlier this year by regional tensions and war that interrupted air traffic and impacted Iraqi airspace.
Air travel through Iraq has fallen sharply since late February because of regional instability and security concerns, forcing airlines to cancel flights, modify routes, and carry fewer passengers.
Turkish Airlines is boosting its services on the back of rising trust in the safety of Iraqi airspace and the steady revival in passenger demand.
Istanbul continues to be one of Iraq’s most significant international aviation hubs and a key transit point for Iraqi tourists heading to Europe, Asia, and North America.
The growth also indicates larger economic relations between Baghdad and Ankara as the two nations seek to boost collaboration in commerce, energy, transport, and investment.
The restart of more foreign flights is a key sign that trust is returning to Iraq’s aviation industry after months of disruption for airlines, airports, and passengers throughout the region.
