Like-for-like penalty for cocaine possession
A WOMAN found in possession of €100 worth of cocaine was handed a like-for-like penalty for having the illegal drug on her person.
Melita Galvin, (34) of 106 Shanabooley Road, Ballynanty, was appearing before Judge Patricia Harney in Limerick District Court having pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.
Ms Galvin was found in possession of €100 worth of the illegal substance when searched by Gardaí.
The court heard she has 40 previous convictions, mainly for breaches of the Public Order Act, but no previous convictions for drug-related offences.
Judge Patricia Harney was told that the accused woman was pleading guilty to the offence.
She is currently in custody on a different matter and serving a sentence with a release date in October of this year, the court heard.
Judge Harney imposed a fine of €100 for possession of the drug.
