Grass collection should be in all contracts for housing estates, says Cllr

FINE Gael councillor Liam Galvin proposed that Limerick Council includes grass collection to all contracts for estates in Newcastle West district. Cllr Collins was informed by the local authority that the inclusion of grass collection in any new contract would incur a rate for cut and collection of €750 per hectare and a requirement for an additional €300,000 of VAT for the Municipal District of Newcastle West alone. The Council has engaged the services of a contractor to provide the grass cutting service, requiring 16 cuts annually at a rate of €126.50 per hectare cut. This service does not include the collection of the cut grass. Current budget allocation, councillors were informed, precludes the inclusion of grass collection as part of the grass cutting contract.
