Blast in Ghazni Kills Child, Injures Two
A child was killed and two others injured after an unexploded ordnance detonated in the Dasht-e Kewan area of Ghazni city, local authorities said.
According to the Ghazni police command, the incident occurred on the afternoon of the previous day when three children found an unexploded explosive device and attempted to move it, triggering the blast.
The latest incident adds to a series of similar explosions across Afghanistan, including a recent case in Barmal district of Paktika province, where at least seven people were killed and four others wounded in an explosion involving unexploded munitions.
Afghanistan remains heavily contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance from decades of conflict, posing a persistent threat to civilians, particularly children in rural and urban areas.
According to data from the National Disaster Management Authority under the current administration, at least 87 people were killed and 333 injured in mine and unexploded ordnance incidents over the past year, with children accounting for around 67 percent of the victims.
