Driver Arrested After Vehicle Attack Injures Three Girls in Kabul
Taliban police in Kabul said they have arrested a man accused of driving into a group of girls in the capital, an incident that left at least three injured in the city’s Sixth Police District.
Khalid Zadran, spokesperson for the Kabul police, said the suspect was detained along with his vehicle and is currently under investigation. He added that legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, and involved a speeding white Land Cruiser without license plates that struck several women before also hitting a cyclist, according to footage circulated online.
Police released an image of the suspect with his face blurred, but did not provide further details about his identity or motive. The arrest came nearly eight days after the incident, following the circulation of the video on social media.
Women in Afghanistan continue to face severe restrictions on education, public movement, and participation in social life, a situation that has intensified concerns among rights groups about their safety and visibility in public spaces.
Economic hardship and rising unemployment across the country have also contributed to increased social vulnerability, particularly among young people, with limited access to stable jobs and public services.
Incidents involving violence in urban areas have further highlighted concerns about public safety and enforcement of law, especially in Kabul, where residents report growing insecurity and limited accountability mechanisms.
