World Leaders Welcome U.S.-Iran Deal, Urge Full Implementation
World leaders have welcomed the emerging agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending months of conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and launching a new phase of negotiations on unresolved issues.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for the swift implementation of the agreement, saying the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is vital for regional stability and the global economy. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas described the deal as a potentially significant breakthrough that could pave the way for broader discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the agreement as an important step toward reducing tensions, while leaders from India, France, Germany, Turkey and Qatar also expressed support and urged all sides to maintain diplomatic engagement.
Financial markets reacted positively to the development, with oil prices falling and stock markets rising amid expectations that energy exports and shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal.
The U.S.-Iran agreement includes a ceasefire framework, plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and a process for further negotiations on sanctions relief, regional security and Iran’s nuclear programme. A formal signing ceremony is expected to take place in Switzerland later this week.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas exports. Concerns over disruptions to shipping through the waterway had contributed to volatility in international energy markets during recent months.
Despite broad international support, key issues remain unresolved, including the future of Iran’s nuclear activities, sanctions on Tehran and long-term security arrangements in the Middle East. These issues are expected to be addressed in follow-up negotiations.
Several governments and international organizations have described the agreement as an opportunity to reduce regional tensions and prevent a wider conflict, while emphasizing that its success will depend on implementation and continued diplomatic engagement.
