Bona Life Reaffirms Commitment to Clash of Legends
Bona Life has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving football heritage and strengthening community development.
The citizen-owned life insurer has returned as a key partner of the 2026 Betway Clash of Legends. Bona Life served as the event’s title sponsor during last year’s successful edition.
Both the company and event organizers say its return reflects the growing value and impact of the football showcase. This year’s tournament is scheduled for June 20 at the National Stadium.
It will feature legends from Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs. The tournament will bring together some of the most celebrated names from Botswana and South African football.
According to Bona Life Chief Executive Officer Phatsimo Keakabetse, the sponsorship aligns directly with the company’s mission of protecting futures while empowering communities.
“Clash of Legends aligns strongly with Bona Life’s purpose of protecting futures and empowering communities. The event celebrates resilience, discipline, teamwork and excellence, values that are fundamental both in sport and in life.”
The Bona Life CEO says Bona Life views investments in sport as an extension of its broader commitment to people and communities.
“As Botswana’s citizen-owned life insurer, we believe that investing in people extends beyond financial protection. It includes supporting initiatives that inspire individuals, strengthen communities and promote healthy, active lifestyles.”
“Through our support of Clash of Legends, we honour sporting excellence while contributing to social cohesion and community development, creating opportunities for people to come together around a shared sense of pride and achievement.”
She noted that sports sponsorship remains an important component of Bona Life’s nation-building and community engagement efforts.
“Sports sponsorship forms part of Bona Life’s broader commitment to nation-building, community wellness and the development of future generations. Whether through football, golf, swimming or other sporting disciplines, we support initiatives that encourage healthy living, personal growth, discipline and teamwork.”
“Our involvement is therefore not simply about brand visibility. It is about creating meaningful impact, promoting well-being and supporting the development of stronger and more resilient communities across Botswana.”
The company also hopes its involvement will help preserve Botswana’s football history while recognizing former players whose achievements inspired generations of supporters.
“We hope our support contributes to preserving and celebrating Botswana’s rich football heritage by recognising the players whose achievements helped shape the sport and inspire generations of Batswana. These legends continue to serve as role models, demonstrating the values of perseverance, commitment and excellence,” Keakabetse says.
Meanwhile, one of the event organizers, Sekhana Koko, says the company’s return demonstrates belief in both the concept and future of Clash of Legends.
“Bona Life’s sponsorship is significant on a number of levels, particularly because it is not the company’s first involvement with the event. Having come on board as a title sponsor in 2025 and choosing to continue that partnership this year demonstrates confidence in the concept, its impact and its growth potential.”
“For us as organizers, Bona Life’s continued support provides stability and credibility. Sponsorships are most meaningful when they are sustained over time because they allow events to grow, improve the experience for supporters and participants, and create a lasting impact.”
According to Koko, the Clash of Legends tournament is about much more than football. It is a celebration of Botswana’s football heritage, an opportunity to honour players who contributed immensely to the game. It also serves as a platform that reconnects supporters with some of their favourite football personalities.
Beyond the social impact, Koko says the event contributes to the wider sporting economy by creating opportunities for various stakeholders.
“Events such as Clash of Legends create economic opportunities for service providers, vendors, media practitioners and other stakeholders while generating excitement around local football. Bona Life’s investment therefore extends beyond the match itself and contributes to the wider sports ecosystem.”
He adds that Bona Life’s sponsorship sends an important message about the role of the private sector in supporting sport and preserving cultural heritage.
“Their decision to sponsor the event again this year shows that they see long-term value in the platform and believe in its ability to make a positive contribution to sport and society.”
