PM Hun Manet Calls for Higher Quality Standards in TVET Training

(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called for stronger quality standards in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), stressing the importance of qualified teachers, effective curricula, and practical skills development. Speaking at the 9th National TVET Day 2026 on Monday (Jun. 15), the premier said successful training programmes depend on competent instructors and relevant, impactful lessons that equip students with employable skills. Samdech Thipadei also warned against focusing solely on enrollment numbers, urging training institutions to prioritise education quality to build public trust and sustain long-term interest in vocational training. He added that when 70 to 80 per cent of graduates gain practical competencies and employable skills, confidence in TVET programmes will continue to grow, even if some graduates do not secure immediate employment. On the occasion, the prime minister highlighted two key priorities: improving teacher qualifications and maintaining discipline within the learning environment to ensure students complete required study hours and training standards. The Royal Government of Cambodia aims to provide technical and vocational education and training to approximately 1.5 million individuals nationwide, with a particular focus on youth from poor and vulnerable households. The government continues to encourage young people to pursue vocational training as a pathway to employment, stable incomes, and poverty reduction.=FRESH NEWS
