Egypt plants over 200,000 trees in phase 4 of ‘100 Million Trees’ initiative

Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, announced the completion of Phase 4 of the presidential initiative to plant “100 Million Trees.” This latest phase involved supplying, planting, and afforesting more than 200,000 trees across various governorates, alongside expanding green spaces along vital transit corridors. The efforts aim to improve air quality, mitigate rising temperatures, and enhance urban aesthetics within cities. Phase 4 was implemented across seven governorates including, Faiyum, Dakahlia, Alexandria, Suez, Sharqia, Red Sea, and Qena. The initiative’s four stages, executed during the current fiscal year, demonstrate steady nationwide progress. Phase 1 commenced with contracts to plant 5 million trees across all governorates, followed by Phase 2, which added 2 million trees. Phase 3 targeted the Greater Cairo area—covering Cairo, Giza, and Qalyubia governorates—with 452,000 trees. This cumulative progress culminated in Phase 4, marking a qualitative expansion in nation-wide afforestation efforts and the growth of green spaces.
