Zelensky says strengthening Ukraine’s air defense remains top priority
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday that Ukraine is working with international partners to strengthen its air defense systems, calling the issue Kyiv’s highest current priority.
In a statement posted on X, Zelensky said global anti-ballistic missile capabilities have become limited because of the war involving Iran and broader regional tensions, but stressed that solutions must still be found.
The Ukrainian president said Kyiv is pushing to accelerate anti-ballistic missile production in Europe to ensure sufficient defensive capabilities remain available for Ukraine and its allies.
Zelensky also said cooperation with the United States on security assistance and defense support would continue despite growing international military pressures.
Ukraine has repeatedly requested additional air defense systems from Western allies as Russian missile and drone attacks continue targeting cities, energy infrastructure and military positions.
European governments and NATO members have increased defense production efforts in recent years amid concerns over ammunition shortages, missile defense gaps and expanding regional conflicts.
