Earl Trapp says he still has work to do in Twin Towns
By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): After weeks of speculation surrounding his political future, San Ignacio and Santa Elena Mayor Earl Trapp has officially confirmed that he will seek a fifth term in office during the 2027 municipal elections.
Trapp made the announcement during a United Democratic Party press conference held last week, ending rumors that he was preparing to step away from frontline politics after more than a decade as mayor of the Twin Towns.
The veteran UDP politician said he remains confident in the people of San Ignacio and Santa Elena and believes voters will judge his administration based on performance, leadership and results delivered over the years.
Trapp has served as mayor since 2012 and previously completed four terms as a councillor before becoming one of the UDP’s longest-serving municipal leaders in the country.
His announcement comes amid reports of internal tensions within sections of the UDP as political preparations begin ahead of the 2027 municipal elections.
