Trump says Iran’s enriched uranium must be surrendered or destroyed under potential deal
Donald Trump said Iran’s enriched uranium would either be handed over to the United States for destruction or eliminated under international supervision as part of a potential agreement between Washington and Tehran.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the destruction or transfer of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile would be monitored by an atomic energy authority or a similar international body.
The remarks came after reports by Saudi-owned media outlet Al Hadath claimed Iran had expressed readiness to transfer highly enriched uranium outside the country, potentially to China, if security guarantees were provided.
Trump also repeated that any future agreement with Iran should include broader regional normalization efforts under the Abraham Accords framework involving countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan.
However, Iranian officials have continued to signal resistance to surrendering enriched uranium stockpiles, with Tehran insisting that nuclear issues remain part of future negotiations rather than the current ceasefire discussions.
Recent reports by Fox News said American forces carried out “self-defense” strikes against targets in southern Iran, including missile launch sites and boats allegedly preparing mine-laying operations.
The latest tensions come amid fragile ceasefire negotiations between Washington and Tehran, while fears remain over maritime security and possible disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
