US forces strike targets in southern Iran, Fox News reports
US forces carried out strikes in southern Iran targeting missile launch sites and boats allegedly linked to mine-laying operations, according to reports by Fox News citing US military officials.
The report quoted Tim Hawkins as saying the attacks were conducted in “self-defense” to protect American forces from threats posed by Iranian-backed activities in the region.
According to US Central Command, the targeted sites included missile positions and Iranian boats that US officials said were preparing maritime mining operations near strategic waterways.
At the same time, CENTCOM said American forces continue to act with “restraint” despite ongoing tensions and the fragile ceasefire environment in the region.
Iranian media earlier reported multiple explosions in Bandar Abbas, a key southern port city located near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Mehr News Agency later reported that authorities had brought the situation under control.
The latest strikes come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent negotiations, regional ceasefire efforts and disputes over maritime security in the Gulf.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, with repeated military confrontations raising fears of broader regional escalation and disruptions to global energy markets.
