Uzbekistan sends 320 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan
Uzbekistan has announced that, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and in support of families affected by floods, it has sent around 200 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
According to a statement on Monday that the assistance was handed over to local officials in Balkh and included 10 types of food supplies, among them 96 tons of flour, 22 tons of rice, 10,000 cans of halal beef, 15,000 liters of sunflower oil, 22 tons of pasta, 41,220 packets of assorted biscuits, 3 tons of banana-flavored biscuits, 22 tons of sugar and 22 tons of chickpeas.
The assistance comes as Afghanistan continues to face severe poverty, food shortages and growing humanitarian needs affecting millions of people across the country.
According to UNICEF, around 21.9 million people in Afghanistan are expected to require humanitarian assistance in 2026, including millions of children facing hunger and disease risks.
UNICEF has also warned that nearly 11.6 million Afghan children remain at risk of malnutrition because of worsening economic conditions and limited access to adequate food supplies.
Afghanistan’s humanitarian situation has deteriorated sharply since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, with international sanctions, economic collapse and unemployment worsening living conditions nationwide.
Restrictions imposed on women and girls, including limits on education and employment, have also affected humanitarian operations and deepened concerns among international aid organizations working in Afghanistan.
