Iraq emphasizes the stability of Gulf States
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday that the stability of the Gulf States is an integral part of Arab national security.
The ministry also indicated that Iraq views the security of the Gulf States as an extension of its national stability, according to a statement cited by the state-run news agency (INA).
The statement took place as the ministry greeted the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on the 45th anniversary of the council’s formation, which is May 25th. It further praised its contribution in deepening cooperation and enhancing stability in the region.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relationships and collaboration with the Gulf States to foster regional stability and encourage joint development. It also emphasized the importance of prioritizing dialogue to address challenges that affect regional stability.
The Foreign Ministry’s remarks took place after the UAE Foreign Ministry urged Iraq last Wednesday to prevent hostile activities from its territory following a drone attack that targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
According to the UAE Ministry of Defense, three drones entered the country’s western border on Sunday.
The attack on the UAE’s nuclear facility came after Riyadh announced on Sunday evening that it intercepted three drones launched from Iraqi airspace and affirmed its right to respond at any time and location.
The incidents are not the first attempt to target Gulf States with missiles or drones launched from Iraq since the outbreak of the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran on February 28.
