The Festa Major del Tour will serve as a prelude to the grand start of the Tour de France 2026 in Barcelona
The goal is to turn this year’s special Festa Major del Tour into Barcelona’s third biggest festivity behind Santa Eulàlia and La Mercè, involving neighbourhoods, shopping hubs, markets, municipal facilities and everybody wishing to take part.
The celebration includes ten musical performances on the main stages. In Pl. Catedral we can see Ladilla Rusa, Sexenni, Doctor Prats, 31 FAM, Suu, Sidonie, Ambauka and Xiula, plus other family performances, dancing giants, a human towers gathering and more popular culture. On the other main stage, in Pl. Margarida Xirgu, there’s a programme of music, dance, circus and street theatre. Performing artists and companies include Joan Garriga, DJ Trapella, Zum Zum Teatre, Els Atrapasomnis, Boom Boom Fighters and Mercabanda.
One of the main areas of the programme will be Le Tour on Tour, a float offering a show that will be making its way around the districts from 27 June to 2 July, with music, street theatre and a festive atmosphere inspired by the cycling universe.
Another highlight is Barcelona en ruta, a decentralised initiative with 18 cultural actions around the city’s ten districts, with travelling shows, participatory installations and art interventions in squares, markets and shopping hubs.
Coinciding with Barcelona’s designation as the European Capital of Small Retail 2026, the city’s municipal markets and shopping centres are taking part in the celebrations with activities, promotions and themed spaces.
A total of 14 shopping hubs will be taking part with a range of activities such as workshops, children’s circuits, open classes, cycling displays, concerts and various culinary options. Some forty municipal markets will be involved in themed decorations and various gastronomy actions, and six shopping centres and more than 2,500 shops will also be decorated to welcome the Tour de France.
The city’s guilds will also be involved, including the pastry makers guild who have created a cake for the occasion, the bike sellers’ guild and the bakers’ guild, the latter having also created a bread for the occasion.
The Festa Major del Tour will be a prelude to the grand start of the Tour de France 2026 from Barcelona. On 2 July, the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Av. Gaudí and the Sagrada Família will be hosting the presentation of teams. From that point until 5 July we can enjoy the Fan Park, and different iconic buildings in the city will be lit up in yellow.
The conclusion comes in the shape of the first stages of the competition. On 4 July comes the team time trials in the streets of Barcelona and on 5 July the second stage ends in Montjuïc.
Barcelona will celebrate the Tour de France with the Festa Major del Tour from 26 June to 5 July. Over 60 cultural activities, family events, commerce, gastronomy and sports to fill all the city’s districts and turn the Grand Départ 2026 into a shared festival. The post The Festa Major del Tour will serve as a prelude to the grand start of the Tour de France 2026 in Barcelona first appeared on All PYRENEES.
