2 Finns potentially exposed to hantavirus
Two Finnish people have been potentially exposed to hantavirus, said the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.
The two Finns were travelling on the same flight of Dutch airline KLM from Johannesburg to Amsterdam on April 25 where a hantavirus infected elderly woman was on board temporarily.
The infected Dutch woman had returned from the cruise ship MV Hondius but the crew ultimately decided not to allow her to travel because of her medical condition. She died of hantavirus in Johannesburg on April 26.
The two Finnish passengers have already arrived in Finland and THL authority communicated with them.
The authority instructed them to follow the precautionary measures of normal infectious disease and referred them to healthcare centre.
THL, however, said that they are asymptomatic.
Hantavirus outbreak was reported on the cruise ship Hundius on May 2. Seven individuals of the 147 passengers and crew have been reported ill and three have died.
