The Ferrari Portofino (Type F164) is a sports grand tourer from the Italian manufacturer Ferrari. It is a four-seater, two-door hardtop convertible powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The Portofino comes from the picturesque village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera. It was unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Ferrari Roma coupé, launched in 2020, is based on the Portofino. The Roma convertible version appeared in 2023, replacing the Portofino in the model range.

Presentation
The Ferrari Portofino was first unveiled on the Italian Riviera in Portofino on 7 and 8 September 2017. Piero Ferrari, Sergio Marchionne, Sebastian Vettel and Giancarlo Fisichella were present at the launch. The car debuted in Maranello on 9 and 10 September to mark the company’s 70th anniversary.
By the end of 2017, the Portofino had arrived in Asia, specifically in China and Japan. China is considered the main market for this model. In Japan, the car was first shown privately in November, with the official launch taking place in February 2018. Prices in Japan start at 25,300,000 yen, and in the US at $215,000.
The Ferrari Portofino costs an average of $200,000 in the US, around €220,000 in Germany, £146,970 in the UK and approximately ₽26,000,000 in Russia.
Description
During the development of the Portofino, particular attention was paid to weight reduction. Ferrari’s engineers reduced the weight of the powertrain, the dashboard, the climate control system and the electronics. As a result, the Portofino weighs 1,664 kg, which is 80 kg less than its predecessor.
The Ferrari Portofino uses a powerful 3.8-litre (235 cu in) twin-turbo V8 F154BE engine. This engine resembles the unit in the Ferrari GTC4Lusso T. The power output is reduced to 441 kW (592 HP) at 7,500 rpm and 760 Nm of torque between 3,000 and 5,250 rpm.
Key changes to the engine include a 10% increase in combustion chamber pressure, new connecting rods and pistons, and a single-piece cast exhaust manifold. The seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox remains unchanged, but we updated it with new software for faster gear changes.
The exhaust system has been upgraded to improve the sound whilst retaining the grand tourer character. It features an adjustable electric bypass valve that regulates the engine sound depending on driving conditions.
The Ferrari Portofino accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 320 km/h.
The Portofino features magnetorheological dampers, previously used in the California. Like the 812 Superfast grand tourer, the Portofino uses an electric power steering. In sport mode, the suspension and steering become more responsive.
The Portofino’s interior has been designed with the preferences of a wide range of customers in mind. Legroom in the rear seats has increased by 5 cm. The infotainment system is now more user-friendly, with a 10.2-inch display on the centre console and Apple CarPlay, just like its predecessor. The air conditioning has been improved: it operates 25% faster and is 50% quieter than in the California T.
Portofino M
In 2021, Ferrari unveiled the new Portofino M. The name stands for ‘Modificata’.
It has the same eight-speed dual-clutch transmission as the Roma, as well as a variable boost control system. This system adjusts torque depending on the selected gear, limiting maximum torque to only the top two gears.
The car retains the Roma’s successful technologies and is equipped with a 620 HP (456 kW) engine, which is 20 HP more than the standard Portofino. The V-shaped eight-cylinder engine with a flat crankshaft, dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) and 32 valves delivers power thanks to new cam profiles and an increased turbocharger speed limit.
The manufacturer claims that the car accelerates from 0 to 200 km/h in 9.8 seconds, which is one second faster than the previous model. The top speed remains electronically limited to 320 km/h.
European versions are fitted with a particulate filter and modifications have been made to the catalytic converter to meet environmental standards.
