Crunch, tang and survival: Fort Smith’s Vietnamese food scene is an American story
In 1975, more than 50,000 Southeast Asian people passed through Fort Chaffee, a military base near Fort Smith that processed refugees fleeing the Vietnam War. In the decades to come, thousands of Vietnamese people put down roots in the area, resulting in a robust Vietnamese food scene unlike anywhere else in Arkansas.
