Inspectors move to curb firecracker trade in Kabul
Ministry of Industry and Commerce said it has deployed inspection teams to markets in Kabul’s Districts 6 and 7 to enforce a ban on the sale of firecrackers, warning traders to comply or face legal action.
In a statement, the ministry said the inspections were aimed at implementing restrictions on the import, production, and use of firecrackers, with a focus on removing the products from local markets.
Officials said shopkeepers found in possession of the banned items were instructed to halt sales and return existing stock to suppliers.
The ministry added that monitoring efforts will continue and that authorities will take legal measures against individuals who fail to comply with the directive.
The ban on firecrackers was introduced following a rise in public complaints over their use and associated risks, including safety concerns and disturbances in residential areas.
Kabul continues to face persistent security and public safety challenges, with residents frequently reporting incidents that disrupt daily life despite repeated assurances from authorities. Measures such as market inspections and restrictions on hazardous materials have been introduced, but their effectiveness has often been questioned due to inconsistent enforcement and limited follow-through.
In addition to security concerns, residents have reported problems linked to overcrowded markets, weak enforcement of regulations, and limited public awareness about safety risks.
