The Pakistan Navy assisted a stranded Indian vessel in the Arabian Sea after it suffered a critical technical failure, providing emergency support to the crew, according to a Pakistani military statement cited by Reuters.
The vessel, identified as MV Gautam, was travelling from Oman to India when it experienced a total power failure caused by a generator malfunction, leaving it adrift at sea.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai alerted Pakistani authorities, prompting Islamabad to deploy the vessel PMSS Kashmir to carry out a rescue and support operation.
According to officials, the crew of seven; six Indians and one Indonesian, received food, medical assistance and technical support to stabilise the vessel and ensure their safety.
Indian sources said the vessel had been drifting after losing propulsion and had limited communication capability, relying on backup systems. The ship was located within the Pakistan Search and Rescue Region at the time of the incident.
Technical teams from the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency boarded the vessel and later determined that its main generator could not be repaired.
Indian authorities have requested the vessel’s owner to arrange a tug for towing assistance, warning that the powerless ship poses a navigational risk to nearby maritime traffic.
The operation follows a similar incident last month in which Pakistan said it rescued 18 crew members from a distressed vessel in the northern Arabian Sea.
