The Bike Festival returns to Barcelona
Passeig Lluís Companys is hosting a new edition of the Bike Festival and Bike Ride on 31 May, a festive occasion aimed at promoting a safer, healthier and more accessible city model, with the bicycle as an efficient and environmentally respectful means of transport. Within the context of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in Barcelona, exclusive activities have been organised such as a free second-hand bike exchange.
As ever, the event combines a popular 12 km bike ride around the districts of L’Eixample, Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí, with a festival in Passeig Lluís Companys. Throughout the morning, people will be able to enjoy a fair by organisations, with workshops, games, a chance to try bikes, circuits for all ages and plenty more surprises.
On the occasion of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France in Barcelona, this year’s event features the exhibition Barcelona and the Tour, a fine tandem, which includes the official trophy and a Tour jersey, as well as exclusive visits and a free second-hand bike exchange.
Traffic restrictions will apply around the route from 8.30 am to 12 noon, with normal circulation to gradually be reestablished once the bicycles have passed through. Various car park entrances will also be affected, meaning people are advised to avoid using vehicles to access or leave the area except in emergencies.
The festival starts at 10 am, with thirty organisations linked to the bicycle organising their activities throughout the morning. Seven cycling circuits will be set up, with different options for all ages with the goal of promoting everyday use of bicycles in a recreational and participatory atmosphere. Various activities will be available for children and adults alike, including the now famous cycling draw.
As a new aspect for 2026, a bicycle exchange area will be set up to help families with growing children to get bicycles in the most suitable sizes. The area will have more than 100 bicycles from the municipal deposit, dumps and donations, which have been repaired and reconditioned for those attending.
While stocks last, each participant can take along a children’s bike that they no longer use and exchange it for another to suit their age or size, in an initiative that promotes reuse, waste reduction and sustainable mobility among children. The post The Bike Festival returns to Barcelona first appeared on All PYRENEES.
