Students toast end of 11-Plus exams with afternoon of relaxation

Cheers, laughter and the sound of splashing water marked a day of celebration on Tuesday as primary school students across Barbados marked the end of the 11-Plus examination with organised outings at two venues. At Savannah Beach Hotel, students from Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary, Eden Lodge Primary and The Rock Christian School enjoyed a day of well-earned fun and relaxation. The day featured lunch, unlimited drinks, games and full access to the hotel’s Kids Club and pool facilities, giving students an opportunity to unwind after completing one of their most significant academic milestones. Kids Club Manager Kerri Phillips said the initiative has become a cherished tradition. “So this afternoon we have the 11-Plus kids here. This is something we do every year for the kids,” Phillips said. “The parents pay a fee and we provide lunch, unlimited drinks, and they have full access to the kids’ club, the pool … as you can see, having a great time.” She noted that while games are usually organised later in the day, the pool remains the main attraction. “Once they’re in the pool, that’s it. They enjoy it,” she said with a laugh. Phillips added that the response from schools and parents is always overwhelmingly positive, with the annual event also introducing families to the hotel’s wider offerings, including children’s parties and other family-friendly experiences. “The response is always beautiful,” she said. At Buzo Osteria Italiana restaurant in Hastings, several students from Charles F. Broome, Wilkie Cumberbatch and Luther Thorne schools took part in a much-deserved lunch as they celebrated the end of the exam.
