Police investigate violence during Tampere May Day demonstrations

Police in Tampere have launched an investigation after an alleged assault during May Day demonstrations in the city centre drew public attention and debate over policing. The Interior Finland Police said a notified march organised by the Blue-and-Black movement took place on 1 May in line with the Public Order Act. The group had submitted advance notice, as required by law, and authorities said there were no legal grounds to ban the event. An estimated 200 people joined the march, according to police figures.
