The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a full-size SUV from the Land Cruiser range, which Toyota produces as a lighter version of the line-up. The name ‘Prado’ translates from Spanish and Portuguese as ‘meadow’ or ‘field’.
V generation (J250)
The Land Cruiser Prado J250 series was launched on 2 August 2023. In Japan, it is known as the Land Cruiser 250, whilst in North America and parts of Europe it is simply called the Land Cruiser. In Australia, China, the Philippines and Europe, the name Land Cruiser Prado remains unchanged.
The design and engineering solutions have changed compared to the previous generation. The vehicle is built on the GA-F body-on-frame platform, just like the larger Land Cruiser J300 series. Frame rigidity has been increased by 50%, and overall rigidity by 30%. This is the first ‘Light Duty’ Land Cruiser to feature an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, which makes off-road driving easier, improves manoeuvrability at low speeds and helps maintain lane position. The maximum approach and departure angles are 31° and 22° respectively. Ground clearance is 221 mm.
All models are equipped with permanent four-wheel drive featuring a Torsen centre differential and a manual locking mechanism. The standard electronic two-speed transfer box features a low-range and high-range gear. The electronic locking rear differential distributes power 50/50 to the rear wheels, improving control on rough terrain.
