The Exeed Sterra ET (星纪元ET) is a mid-size luxury crossover with a long range from the Chinese car manufacturer Exeed, a premium brand of Chery. First unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2023, the car went on sale in China on 9 May 2024. It is the first vehicle to be equipped with CATL’s Shenxing 2.0 batteries.
Outside China, the vehicle is sold under the name Exlantix ET with minor changes. It is available only with extended-range powertrains. The design has become more modern: the radiator grille is styled as a waterfall with vertical chrome strips, the headlights have been simplified and no longer feature LED panels as in the Chinese version, and the lower air intake has become wider with horizontal slats. To improve resistance to winter conditions, particularly in Russia, the Exlantix ET has been fitted with a more durable anti-corrosion chassis coating and aluminium body panels, which prevent rust and reduce weight.
Overview
The Sterra ET is the second model in the Sterra range after the Sterra ES saloon. The company builds both cars on the same platform with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It positions the Sterra ET to compete with the Tesla Model Y, Nio ES7, and XPeng G9. It is a flagship mid- to large-sized SUV. In terms of price, it is comparable to the Tesla Model Y, but larger in size.
It also uses independent suspension with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear. The KHAT air suspension adjusts damping and ground clearance by up to 100 mm. At speeds above 120 km/h, the suspension lowers to reduce aerodynamic drag. Exeed claims that the combination of air suspension and damping reduces roll and pitch by 30% and 20% respectively.
The Sterra ET’s interior features a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a 23-inch head-up display and a 15.6-inch central screen with 2.5K resolution. The infotainment system runs on a Snapdragon 8155 processor, later upgraded to a Snapdragon 8295P. The voice assistant is Lion AI. The climate control system features three zones with a heat pump, an electronically operated glove box, a panoramic roof and an electric sunblind.
Advanced control systems
Sterra ET has developed an advanced driver assistance system called Falcon Smart Driving. It has 30 sensors and it can operate in urban environments in certain cities using high-resolution maps and on motorways. Furthermore, the Sterra ET can park automatically and control a valet parking service.
All Sterra ET models support the V2L function. Purely electric versions deliver 6 kW of power, whilst models with extended range deliver 3.3 kW.
