Vale to Citizen of Year Rod Stewart
I WAS deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of a hugely respected member of the Hunters Hill community, Rod Stewart.
Rod worked tirelessly across the municipality as a dedicated volunteer on many community organisations and as a valued veteran.
He was especially involved in the Hunters Hill RSL Sub-Branch, including holding the roles of president and vice president over the years.
He’s also a member of the Hunters Hill Probus and the Pioneer Men’s society, as well as President of the Hunter’s Hill Historical Society.
His contributions to Hunters Hill were invaluable and I was honoured to award him the 2026 Hunters Hill Citizen of the year on Australia Day this year.
I send my condolences to his family and everyone who knew this wonderful man.
Paul Manton Pavilion official opening
I HAD the privilege of officially opening the new Gladesville Reserve Sport Facility last weekend, alongside members of our community, local sporting groups and project partners.
This important project delivers modern, accessible amenities that will support players, families and visitors for years to come, while also strengthening Gladesville Reserve as a key hub for local sport and recreation.
It was especially meaningful to honour Paul Manton, whose longstanding contribution to local sport and community life is now recognised through the naming of the building, ensuring his legacy continues to be part of this much-loved community space.
Two honours at Granicus Awards
I AM also proud to share that the council has been recognised internationally, winning two honours at the Granicus Digital Government Awards for Operational Excellence and Total Government Experience.
This reflects the council’s organisation-wide digital transformation, making it faster and easier for residents to access services online.
Online applications have grown from under four per cent to over half, while request turnaround times have more than halved. Phone enquiries have also reduced as more residents use 24/7 digital services.
Rotary’s Brain Cancer Gala Dinner
THE ROTARY Club of Hunters Hill will host its Signature Brain Cancer Charity Dinner on Friday, May 15, from 6.30pm at Aqua Luna in Drummoyne, supporting The Brain Cancer Group.
The evening will include live music, dancing, an auction and a three-course dinner with drinks provided.
Proceeds will contribute to research and improved treatment options for people affected by brain cancer.
