Emmanuel Macron, co-prince of Andorra and President of the French Republic, has arrived in the Principality
The co-prince of Andorra and President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, arrived in Andorra by helicopter at Pas de la Casa, where he was received by Andorran authorities, including the Head of Government, Xavier Espot. The delegation subsequently travelled to the historic Radio Andorra building, one of the main venues of the visit.
During the visit, Macron emphasised that the main issues to be addressed include women’s rights and Andorra’s relationship with the European Union, which he described as particularly relevant.
He also addressed integration, arguing that simplistic views should be avoided and that dialogue must be prioritised. He further described the conflict in the Middle East as a global challenge requiring respect and dialogue.
At the bilateral meeting between France and Andorra, issues such as abortion were also discussed. Xavier Espot called for progress in this area with “realism and prudence”, without compromising the country’s institutional balance, and stressed the desire to find a middle ground between advancing rights and preserving the political system.
Finally, cross-border cooperation was also discussed, particularly in the wake of the landslide on the RN20, which highlighted the need to improve connections between Andorra and France by exploring new options despite the geographical challenges.
During the day, Emmanuel Macron also met with the episcopal Co-Prince, Josep-Lluís Serrano Pentinat, in what was their first institutional meeting.
The afternoon was marked by rain, forcing members of the media to wait outside in the rain for the official statements.
A meadow with cows just a stone’s throw away gave the official reception a rather unusual, almost pastoral backdrop, not typical for this kind of institutional event.
This year, Emmanuel Macron made his second visit to Andorra as Co-Prince. His first took place in 2019, shortly after taking office, during a high-profile official visit that included a speech to the people of Andorra. The post Emmanuel Macron, co-prince of Andorra and President of the French Republic, has arrived in the Principality first appeared on All PYRENEES.
