Trade deficit widens
Botswana’s trade deficit widened sharply in February, highlighting the economy’s continued exposure to import surges and a narrow export base.
Latest figures from Statistics Botswana show the deficit expanded to P4.2 billion, from a revised P1.8 billion in January. The deterioration was driven by a steep rise in imports, which climbed forty-seven percent month-on-month to P9.8 billion, while exports increased at a slower fourteen percent to P5.6 billion.
