Chinese Foreign and Defense Ministers Arrive in Cambodia for “2+2” Strategic Dialogue

Chinese Foreign and Defense Ministers Arrive in Cambodia for “2+2” Strategic Dialogue
(Phnom Penh): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun arrived in Cambodia on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 22), where they received a warm welcome from Cambodian officials. Their visit is part of the inaugural “2+2” Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, involving discussions between the foreign and defence ministers of both Cambodia and China. The meeting is being held at the foreign ministry in Cambodia. Cambodia has emerged as the second nation, following Indonesia, where China has chosen to host this significant dialogue. The discussions aim to enhance high-level strategic relations, foster political and security trust, and reinforce the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Cambodia and China agreed to establish this dialogue during the state visit of President Xi Jinping to Cambodia in April last year, with a view to promoting high-level strategic communication, deepening mutual political and security trust, and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. This new mechanism will serve as a key platform for exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest. During their stay in Phnom Penh, the two visiting Chinese dignitaries will also pay separate courtesy calls on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Senate, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Following the "2+2" Dialogue, Chinese Minister Wang Yi will also pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on 23 April 2026. He will hold in-depth discussions with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on advancing the implementation of existing cooperation frameworks and on contributing to peace, security, stability, and development within and beyond the region.=FRESH NEWS
