Andorra launches polo association with World Cup ambitions

Jessica Youngs, together with CEO Santiago Schweitzer (and Butterfly), as well as treasurer Matthieu Pélissié (and Ully). | Personal archive Andorra has officially entered the world of polo with the creation of the Associació Esportiva Club Polo Andorra, a new organization aiming to develop the sport both locally and internationally — with ambitions to eventually compete at World Cup level. According to El Periodic d’Andorra, the project is led by Jessica Youngs, who discovered polo through a trial lesson and quickly became fully dedicated to the sport. The idea to bring it to Andorra emerged after she connected with professional player Santiago Schweitzer, identifying the country as a strong candidate — especially for snow polo. The association was formally established in October, driven by two key factors: Andorra’s reliable winter conditions, which contrast with declining snowfall in traditional polo destinations, and growing interest from players in nearby Catalonia seeking a closer venue. Despite polo having no tradition in the country, the founders believe entry barriers are low. “There are no real limits in terms of age or prior experience,” Youngs says, placing youth development at the center of the project. The initiative also carries broader ambitions. The association is exploring the creation of a national federation, which would open the door to international recognition and cooperation with global governing bodies. It also sees real potential for Andorra to host major events — including a future international championship — and to attract high-end tourism through snow polo. However, key challenges remain: securing funding, finding suitable land, and introducing a completely new sport to the local population. To address this, the association has already begun training activities and plans to launch academies, youth camps, and public events. Organizers insist the goal is clear: to put Andorra on the global polo map — and eventually see its team competing internationally. The post Andorra launches polo association with World Cup ambitions first appeared on All PYRENEES.
