Flight cancellations may begin in Europe by early summer due to fuel shortages

European aviation could face disruptions in the coming weeks. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned of potential flight cancellations by the end of May amid a shortage of jet fuel. According to IATA Director General Willie Walsh, the situation could develop negatively even if shipments through the Strait of Hormuz stabilize. Restoring supply chains, industry estimates suggest, may take several months. Problems have already been reported in parts of Asia, where airlines are being forced to cut schedules and optimize routes. In Europe, the issue is still a risk scenario, but industry groups note that jet fuel reserves are limited and dependence on imports remains high. The main factor is instability in energy supplies from the Middle East, including disruptions to transport through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. A significant share of global oil and fuel shipments passes through this route. If the situation does not improve, passengers may face the following as early as the start of the summer season: flight cancellations, rising ticket prices and schedule changes. For the Pyrenees region, including airports in Spain and France, no direct restrictions have been announced so far. However, potential disruptions in European aviation could indirectly affect tourist flows during the high season. The post Flight cancellations may begin in Europe by early summer due to fuel shortages first appeared on All PYRENEES.
