United Nations Office at Geneva (Palace of Nations)

The Palace of Nations (French: Palais des Nations) is the home of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland. It was built between 1929 and 1938 to serve as the headquarters of the League of Nations (Société des Nations). It has served as the home of the United Nations Office at Geneva since 1946 when the secretary-general of the United Nations signed a Headquarters Agreement with the Swiss authorities, although Switzerland did not become a member of the United Nations until 2002. In 2012, the Palace of Nations hosted more than 10,000 intergovernmental meetings. When construction was completed in 1936, the palace became the second largest building in Europe after Versailles. United Nations Office at Geneva The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG, French: Office des Nations Unies à Genève) is one of the four major offices of the United Nations where numerous different UN agencies have a joint presence. The main UNOG administrative offices are located inside the Palais des Nations complex, which was originally constructed for the League of Nations between 1929 and 1938. Besides United Nations administration, the Palais des Nations also hosts the offices for a number of programmes and funds such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). The principal organs are: General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice, Secretariat and Trusteeship Council.
