PRD Shifts Focus to Registrations as Election Nears

The Parliamentary Registration Department (PRD) has announced the temporary suspension of voter verification services as the country prepares for the upcoming general election. In a statement released on April 1, Parliamentary Commissioner Harrison Thompson said the decision was made to improve efficiency and ensure that all eligible voters are processed in a timely manner ahead of the polls. The department will now focus its efforts on new voter registrations and transfers, with the aim of ensuring that individuals are properly listed on the register and assigned to the correct constituencies. Officials emphasized that voter verification is only required for those seeking a biometric voter’s card and is not necessary to participate in the election. Persons who are already registered will still be eligible to vote. The PRD also advised that individuals who have lost their voter’s cards will still be allowed to cast their ballots once they are properly registered, provided they present valid government-issued identification, such as a passport, on election day. Replacement of lost voter’s cards will resume after the close of the voter registration period, according to the department. The move is intended to streamline operations, reduce delays, and prioritize first-time registrants and those needing to update their information. Members of the public are being encouraged to visit PRD offices or satellite locations as soon as possible to complete registration or transfers before the deadline. Officials reiterated the importance of ensuring voter information is up to date, urging Bahamians to take full advantage of the remaining time to prepare for participation in the democratic process in The Bahamas. The post PRD Shifts Focus to Registrations as Election Nears first appeared on Bahamas National.
