Knight bows out after epic Round of 16 battle in DR

Barbadian table tennis player Tyrese Knight’s impressive run at the ITTF-Americas Central American and Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in the Dominican Republic came to a hard-fought end in the Round of 16. Knight pushed Guatemala’s Ricardo Gatica to the limit in a gripping seven-set encounter, ultimately falling 11-9, 10-12, 6-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-13. The Barbadian had shown good form during the singles competition. During his opening group stage encounter he defeated Jorge Buenrostro of Mexico 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, before stopping Mehki Simmons of Antigua and Barbuda 11-5, 11-4, 11-4. Up next, he recorded another straight sets win, this time over Caleb Howard of St Vincent and the Grenadines 11-2, 11-5, 11-4, before being granted a bye in the round of 32.
