Hungary election ends Orbán rule after 16 years
Hungary ended Viktor Orbán’s 16 years in power on Sunday after voters handed a sweeping victory to Péter Magyar and his Tisza party, opening the way for a sharp shift in Budapest’s ties with Brussels, Moscow and Kyiv. With almost all votes counted, Tisza stood on course for 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament, while Orbán’s Fidesz and its Christian Democrat ally trailed on 55. The far-right Mi Hazánk looked set to take six seats. Turnout rose to one of the highest levels in the country’s post-communist history.
